Your images stay on your device. Every one of these image tools runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and there is no server involved. You can check for yourself: disconnect from the internet after this page loads and the tool still works.
This uses your browser’s built-in image encoder. A dedicated tool like MozJPEG or Squoosh will often squeeze out a little more at the same visible quality — but for cutting a 2 MB photo to 150 KB before it goes on a page, this does the job without your image leaving your device. Always compare the two images before replacing the original.
What this tool does not do: Uses your browser’s built-in encoder. A specialist tool such as Squoosh or MozJPEG can sometimes produce a slightly smaller file at the same quality.

How to use this tool

  1. Drop the images you want to compress.
  2. Pick a format — WebP is usually the smallest.
  3. Set a maximum width if the images are larger than they need to be.
  4. Compress, compare the before and after, then download.

What is Image Compressor?

Compression trades detail you cannot see for bytes you do not have to send. At 75% quality, most photographs are indistinguishable from the original at a fraction of the size. Below about 50% the artefacts start to show, particularly in flat areas of colour.

Resizing is the bigger win when an image is larger than it displays. Halving the width of an image quarters its pixel count, and the file size drops accordingly — before any quality setting is touched.

Best practices

  • Start at 75% quality and only go lower if the file is still too big.
  • Resize to the largest size the image actually displays at, doubled for high-density screens.
  • Compress once, from the original. Repeatedly re-compressing degrades the image each time.
  • Always look at the result before replacing the original.
  • Keep the untouched original somewhere; compression cannot be undone.

Frequently asked questions

Does compression reduce quality?

JPEG and WebP are lossy, so yes — some detail is discarded. The question is whether you can see it. At 75% quality most people cannot, and the file is often a quarter of the size. PNG is lossless, so its size only comes down through resizing.

Why did my file get bigger?

The original was already well compressed, and re-encoding added rather than removed. When that happens the tool says so. Keep the original.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression happens in your browser using the canvas API. The file never leaves your device, which is why this works offline once the page has loaded — and why it is safe to use on images you would not send to a stranger’s server.

How many images at once?

Up to 20, each up to 25 MB. The limit exists because everything is held in your browser’s memory; a very large batch on an older phone will struggle.
