Frequency counting is the simplest form of content analysis: what does this text actually talk about most? It answers that faster than reading, especially across long pages.
It is most useful comparatively. Run it on your page and on two pages that outrank you, and the gaps in the lists often show what you have not covered.
Best practices
- Compare against competing pages rather than reading your own counts in isolation.
- Look at phrases, not just single words — "local seo services" tells you more than three separate counts.
- Ignore stop words; they are noise in this context.
- A term appearing once may simply be a synonym you used — not everything needs raising.
