Free Open Graph Checker

Check the Open Graph and X card tags on any page, and see roughly how the link will look when someone shares it on Facebook, LinkedIn or WhatsApp.

The page is fetched once and nothing is stored. Sites that block automated requests may not respond.

What this tool does not do: The preview is an approximation. Each network renders cards differently and changes them without notice, so treat it as a check of which text and image are used.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste the URL you want to check.
  2. Look at the preview: is the right image and headline being used?
  3. Check the tag tables for anything missing or misspelled.
  4. After fixing tags, clear the network’s cache with its own debugger tool.

What is Open Graph Checker?

Open Graph tags decide what a link looks like everywhere outside search: Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord. Without them, platforms guess, and the guess is usually an unflattering crop and the first sentence of your navigation.

They have no direct effect on rankings. They have a very direct effect on whether anyone clicks a shared link, which is why they are worth five minutes.

Best practices

  • Set og:title, og:description, og:image and og:url on every page.
  • Use an absolute https URL for og:image — relative paths are frequently ignored.
  • Size share images around 1200 x 630 pixels.
  • X falls back to Open Graph, so twitter: tags are only needed for finer control.
  • After changing tags, force a refresh in Facebook’s Sharing Debugger; the old card is cached.

Frequently asked questions

Do Open Graph tags affect SEO?

Not directly — they are not ranking signals. They affect how often shared links get clicked, and shared links can earn attention and coverage, so the effect is real but indirect.

Why does the preview differ from Facebook?

Facebook caches tags for days and applies its own layout rules. If your tags are correct here but the card is wrong there, it is almost always the cache. Facebook’s Sharing Debugger will re-fetch the page.

Do I need twitter: tags if I have Open Graph?

Usually not. X reads Open Graph when card tags are absent. Add them when you want a different image or headline on X specifically.

Want this done properly on your site?

These tools handle the checks. If you would rather someone did the work — the audit, the fixes and the content — that is what I do.
