What is Schema Markup Generator?
Structured data is a standardised vocabulary that describes what a page is about in a form machines can read without guessing. JSON-LD is the format Google recommends: a block of JSON in a script tag, separate from your visible HTML.
It does not improve rankings directly. What it can do is make a page eligible for rich results — star ratings, FAQs, event dates, recipe cards — which change how the result looks and how often it gets clicked.
Best practices
- Only mark up content that is genuinely visible on the page. Marking up hidden content violates Google’s guidelines.
- Use the most specific type that fits, but never one that misdescribes the page.
- Fill in the recommended properties, not just the required ones — richer markup qualifies for more.
- One primary type per page, not five overlapping ones.
- Re-test after any template change; markup breaks silently.
Frequently asked questions
Does structured data improve rankings?
Not directly. Google has been consistent that it is not a ranking factor. It makes pages eligible for rich results, which affects visibility and click-through rate — worth having, but through a different mechanism than ranking.
Where do I put the JSON-LD?
Inside the head of the page it describes. Google also reads it from the body, but the head is the convention and easier to audit.
Will I definitely get a rich result?
No. Valid markup makes a page eligible; Google decides whether to show it. Anyone promising guaranteed rich results is overselling.
Does this tool add properties I did not fill in?
No. Empty fields are omitted entirely rather than written as empty strings, and only properties that exist in the schema.org vocabulary are emitted.
